About the Artisan Group- - The artisan cluster is headed by Surjo Kanta Bolai, an experienced artisan, who aspires to engage people with his craft. A willing and skilled craft-man, he commands the network of finely tuned processes that range from unbundling and clearing of sabai grass, drying, coloring and retention, drying again, braiding and then put to use.The trade resides within the rural communities of Jhargram district of West Bengal, India.
He supports his circle comprising mostly women who work as per their inclination, dispersing the work timings into shifts. He believes that his work has empowered him and others who object submission to fate, identifying and realizing opportunities come what may.
